KENLEY AND PURLEY METHODIST CHURCH

Sylverdale Road, Purley, Surrey, CR8 2DT

After much exploration and prayer, at the Church Council held on 25 February 2012 the Church resolved that it would cease to function as a local church after 25 November 2012. Moving On was the theme for the last service held at Kenley and Purley Methodist Church on Sunday, 25 November 2012.  It was wonderful to see the church packed, and to hear the memories of over 100 years of witness and service in that place.

Information on the Church

The Church is on the busy A22 main road one mile south from Purley town centre. Bus number 407 passes the door and Southern train services to London stop at Kenley station half a mile away. There is no car park at the church and street parking is limited.

The original church building was built in 1906 and the current church was added in 1936. Residential housing surrounding the Church is, in general, of late Victorian vintage.

Sunday morning worship was relaxed and friendly and included communion once a month. It was enjoyed by a congregation that was willing to experience varied and challenging services.

Regular joint services with our neighbouring Anglican church were a feature of the preaching plan. Open Church met on Wednesday mornings and the Fellowship Group on Monday afternoons. Each month we held a Saturday coffee morning and we also had an active Network group.

Much enjoyed by church members and the local community were the annual candlelight carol service and the spring time musical evening.
